Claremont Property - Real Estate - Houses
Claremont property is nestled in the vibrant and popular Southern Suburb of Cape Town, originally farming land after the Dutch colonists first settled in the Cape. Farmed for about 150 years, the area changed from being farmland only to residential as well, after the British took over the colony in the early 19th century when the original farm Weltevreden was subdivided, and was ultimately named Claremont.
Claremont properties have been home to various well-known residents of old, numbered amongst these were Sir Molteno, who lived and owned Claremont House and became the Cape's first Prime Minister, and Sir John Herschel who lived in Feldhausen Estate. The suburb grew as did the general population of the Cape Peninsula, and the "newer" areas developed their own identity and character. Churches were built, a Town Hall, schools followed, and the development of the railway line from Cape Town through the Southern Suburbs drove further development and growth. With time, land below the line was also subdivided and sold, and thus began Harfield Village, Claremont Lynfrae and Claremont Village.
Cavendish Square was built in the 1970's and has been Claremont's iconic shopping mall since opening, having been upgraded and expanded over the years. Being central, yet only a 10 minute drive from the city centre, Claremont is, despite the current economic times, still enjoying a healthy growth and a boom in building- not limited only to residential homes, but also apartment blocks, a hotel, office blocks as well as a restructure and renovation of other commercial buildings. Properties in the Claremont area enjoy trendy, popular restaurants, boutique hotels and guesthouses, as well as vibrant shopping and entertainment in the new malls and renovated complexes.
The new transport hub has recently been finished, and has added further value in appearance as well as ease of transport in and out of the area. The mix of usage of the various areas is also well-controlled and bodes well for property-owners in Claremont in supporting and protecting their property investments.
Claremont real estate has a strong residential component due to the number of top quality schools in the area, including (but not limited to) Grove Primary School, Western Province Primary School, Herschel Girls School, Livingstone High School, Greenfields School, Bel Porto School, Abbotts College, the Cape Town School of English, Cape Town International School of Languages, Adèle Beauty Therapy School, Cape Town School of Eurhythmy, and the School of Practical Philosophy.
Top medical facilities include the Claremont Medical Centre, the Kingsbury Hospital, and Rosemead Medical Centre. Sports clubs and gyms abound, too - many will know of Villagers' Rugby Football Club, Claremont Tennis Club, and Celtic Harriers Athletics Club, to mention a few.
It is no wonder that so many businesses have chosen to relocate their head offices and corporate headquarters to Claremont and that so many individuals and families have chosen this as their home. Additionally, many wise investors have sought this vibrant area to invest in! Claremont is an area and suburb steeped in history, culture and dynamic growth, thus property in Claremont is truly a win-win scenario.
