Almost at the south west tip of Africa is an area of superb natural beauty, spectacular scenery and safe bathing beaches with the thriving town of Fish Hoek providing the hub for residents living in the area.
The Fish Hoek valley offers a family lifestyle in a village community with top class schools, a technical college, three shopping malls, sports grounds, and a golf course at Clovelly with some of the most beautiful scenery in the Cape. The warm summers and mild winters offer residents and tourists the opportunity to enjoy the world class beaches with white sands and safe bathing in the warm waters of False Bay. Hiking trails could include a trip to Peers Cave where the fossilised skeleton of Fish Hoek man was found in 1927, a leisurely walk along the Silvermine River or the famous Jager’s Walk from the beach along the rocky coastline. Mountainside homes overlooking the beach, older village houses, secure estate living, retirement homes – Fish Hoek has them all and is only a 40 minute drive from Cape Town.
Residential properties in Fish Hoek are almost geographically divided into areas – the older “avenues” homes are within easy walking distance to the main road, shops and beach and are mainly homes built in the 1930’s. As Fish Hoek expanded to the “middle” avenues in the 1940’s and 1950’s the styles changed, and many of these homes are just ripe for renovation as fixer uppers. Further back in the valley are smaller, modern homes that are ideal for young families or couples looking towards retirement in suburbs such as Silverglades, Peers Hill and Silverlea Village.
Clovelly is a sub area within Fish Hoek, a small community centred around the famous Clovelly Country Club where peacocks roam and bird life abounds – the area stretches down to the Silvermine River conservation area – ideal for dog walkers and bird watchers alike.
The mountainside of Fish Hoek boasts some of the first homes built at Sunnycove overlooking the sea, some of them National Monuments such as Min-y-Mor that has been recently restored and modernised. Above the main road are fabulous modern homes with views that stretch across False Bay to the Hottentots Holland mountains. Family homes with stunning panoramic views can be found all along the slopes of Elsie’s Peak.
Noordhoek is a rural community situated on the Atlantic coast just a few minutes’ drive from Fish Hoek where old farmlands have been sub-divided into larger plots and the old village green is home to the Noordhoek Fair and crafters market. Horse riding is a popular activity on the vast stretch of Long Beach – famous for walks to the wreck of the Kakapo and also a surfer’s paradise. There are elite homes throughout Noordhoek – whether on the mountainside overlooking the Atlantic Ocean towards Kommetjie, in the valley at the Meadowsteads, or at the Lakes – an acclaimed eco- development offering secure estate living in a conservation wetland where birdlife abounds. The lifestyle in the South Peninsula has a slow and relaxed pace for everyone scaling up, slowing down or just wanting to enjoy all the benefits of raising a family in superb natural surroundings with the convenience of easy access to Cape Town.
