SEAFRONT! Exquisite seafront residence in De Kelders/Gansbaai, best north facing position in Walker Bay opposite Hermanus.

The completion of the house in 2003 meets all the requirements and expectations of a well-planned and superbly finished project. Attention to design detail results in the successful blending of Mediterranean and Art Deco styles, designed to grant spectacular elevated sea views. A passion for light and space mean few doors, wide archways and open plan living. The view over Walker Bay is picture framed by large beams, designed to shade your eyes from the brilliant afternoon sun for squint-free whale watching. Two stylish and spacious guest bedrooms overlook the cliffs of De Kelders. The generous entrance/reception hall leads to the middle floor which offers a large entertainment deck with a deep plunge pool, undercover pizza oven and awesome views over Walker Bay. The main lounge has wrap-around glass panel sliding doors, which open the room to the sea and the sun deck. The open plan kitchen and dining area are one of the focal points on this floor. The master bedroom on the third floor has a large en-suite bathroom, a walk-in dressing room and a private balcony with a bird\'s eye sea and mountain view. This floor also offers two offices/bedrooms with balcony, walk in safe and broadband internet access. De Kelders is the place that the Southern Right Whales call home! You don’t have to look for them. This is simply where they are between July and December. The whales you will see in abundance are the Southern Right Whales. These whales travel to Walker Bay every year to mate, give birth and play until they depart to the ice cold waters of Antarctica for the rest of the year. The whales regularly come within a few meters of the shore. Standing on top of one of the cliffs or rock formations along the ocean, you can easily spot the whales cruising by below. De Kelders is the Afrikaans name for The Caves. Numerous larger and smaller caves penetrate deep into the rock formations under the houses of De Kelders. The Drup Kelders cave is the only freshwater cave on the coast of Africa, which was utilised as a swimming pool. It has natural mineral water and was visited in 1798 by Lady Anne Barnard. Drup Kelders, after which the area is named, has several fairly deep freshwater rock pools, filled by water seeping in from a freshwater fountain. It was known as one of the natural wonders of the old Colony. If you decide to stay in De Kelders, you will have to get used to the idea that you will see a few whales in the morning before you have had your first cup of coffee. Gansbaai came into being in the early 1880’s as a result of the great fishing opportunities it presented. It got its name from the freshwater fountain in the harbour which was frequented by the “kolgans” thus Gansbaai or Bay of Geese. Gansbaai is the name for the area which encompasses the towns of De Kelders, Perlemoenbaai, Franskraal, Klipfonteyn, Kleinbaai, Blompark, Masakhane, Pearly Beach and Baardskeerdersbos. This is an area ruled by the ocean and blessed with floral abundance. Towering over Walker Bay, the cliffs of De Kelders are known for the world’s best land-based whale watching. Around Dyer Island in Shark Alley adventure lovers can enjoy magical encounters with the Great White Shark hence the “nickname” Great White Shark Capital of the World. Birders, hikers and horse-riders know the unspoilt fynbos-covered hinterland of Gansbaai as one of the main sanctuaries of localised and endemic plant-species on earth and a refuge for hundreds of bird-species. Long stretches of empty sand-beaches especially in Pearly Beach are ideal for uplifting walks. Magnificent sunsets have rounded off every day since earliest modern man first sat in the Klipgat Cave 90’000 years ago. Visitors to the area are amazed at the amount of activities to partake in yet the area has remained unspoilt and is an ideal spot for recharging ones batteries. An area to explore full of secret wonders.
