Garden Route Property

Western Cape property is at its most beautiful, and most desirable in the Garden Route – stretches along the Cape coastline from Mossel Bay to the Storms River, the area is indeed one of the most beautiful regions in the world. This ecologically diverse area provides a stirring study in varying landscapes. Contrasts such as the semi-arid valley of Oudtshoorn that run along the fertile coastline and features lakes, mountains, indigenous forests, amber-coloured rivers and golden beaches can be seen across the region, creating a spectacular scenic beauty.

The Garden Route is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom – the smallest of the world’s six floral kingdoms, boasting more than 6,500 species of indigenous plants. Nearly 300 species of bird live in a variety of habitats ranging from fynbos, to forests, to wetlands. Ten nature reserves embrace the area as well as marine reserves which are home to coral reefs, dolphins, seals and whales. The endangered Southern Right whales are an annual attraction as they return each spring to calve in the protected bays along the Garden Route. Other whale species such as the Humpback, the Brydes and Orcas are also found playing in the waters. Plettenberg Bay is the only place in the world that the rare Beaked whale has been filmed.

Mossel Bay dates back to the 15th Century - the Portuguese navigator Bartholomeu Dias landed here in 1488 to replenish water supplies. George is known as the ‘Gateway to the Garden Route’ and is nestled up against the Outeniqua Mountains, and this is the largest city and the main administrative centre. Mountain passes lead from George into the Klein Karoo.

Oudsthoorn is famous for the Cango Caves – a series of caverns and chambers naturally hewn out of limestone and one of the top ten most visited attractions in South Africa. Oudtshoorn was at the heart of the ostrich feather industry in the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s and the magnificent feather palaces can still be visited.

Garden Route property in South Africa is affordable and ranges from one bedroom chalets to massive mansions on the slopes of the mountains. This is real estate in South Africa that cannot be missed!
