Jeffreys Bay Property

70km west of Port Elizabeth lays the idyllic town of Jeffreys Bay, property that is worth the investment. From the first glimpse of the breathtaking view of the town, which opens before you as you travel towards it, you will surely be smitten for life. Captain Jeffreys landed in Jeffreys Bay in 1850 and at the time established itself as a fishing village. The successful squid industry only came into being in the late 1980’s, providing many jobs for the locals.  Although it now boasts a new shopping mall, this hasn’t diluted the ‘J Bay’ feeling. Quaint clothing, gift and shell shops, small intimate coffee shops, and the well known surfing stores draw holiday makers and locals to their interior. This is real estate in South Africa that is well worth the investment.

A delicious meal enjoyed while watching the dolphins surf the waves cannot be beaten and in July, the Billabong Pro surfing competition is held here, attracting professional surfers from all around the world – this is when the town becomes abuzz with young and old visitors alike. Another yearly attraction in September is the Shell Festival. Stalls line the beachfront road where a wide variety of wares and food can be bought.

Jeffreys Bay has become renowned for its white sandy beaches, endless summers, abundant shells and relaxed lifestyle with the rock pools being especially ideal for toddlers. Other water sports and activities in the area include wind and kite surfing, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, dolphin and whale watching, rock and deep sea fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, dune boarding, golfing, bird watching, hiking, game and nature reserve visits, horse riding and cultural tours.

There are a number of small nature reserves in the area, such as the Kabeljous Estuary and Nature Reserve, which is a walkabout reserve with a safe beach for swimming, as well as excellent bird watching opportunities. The Noorsekloof Nature Reserve stretches to Wavecrest, where small buck and many birds abound.

For the elderly, there are two up market retirement villages and the recently completed polyclinic is a great asset to the town, adding much to this serene real estate in South Africa. The well-established primary school (surfing is an extra mural activity!) and nearby high school take care of the children’s education. Purchasing property in Jeffreys Bay is ideal as the climate, beaches, lagoons and safe environment makes it one of the best towns to live in.
