Kommetjie Property - Houses
The property in Kommetjie offers more than just a suburb of Cape Town; Kommetjie is a way of life. Named after the bowl-like sea basin, ‘Die Kom’, this delightful village lies only 35 minutes from Cape Town CBD. Kommetjie property owners are passionate about their ‘village’, and with very good reason. Kommetjie houses is bounded by Slangkop Mountain, Table Mountain National Park and the Atlantic Ocean and boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in Cape Town. The views across the ocean and towards the Sentinel of Hout Bay are quite spectacular and sunsets viewed from Kommetjie are breathtaking. Kommetjie’s Long Beach is deserving of its name, as its sandy white beaches stretch for more than five kilometres. Although a popular area for a variety of water-sports, dog-walking, and even horse-riding, the beach is never over-crowded and even in peak season, Kommetjie remains a place where you can ‘get away from it all’.
Kommetjie is one of South Africa’s premier surfing sites. The mention of Kommetjie to a surfer will inevitably lead to a conversation about The Dunes, a favourite surfing spot with a hard-breaking wave, and the famous ‘Big Waves’ of Sunset Reef and The Dungeons. Kommetjie is also a good spot for beginner surfers and has a tidal pool which is much favoured by the very young beach-goers. Choose Kommetjie property, as the area is very much a family suburb, and generally the families who live in Kommetjie enjoy life to the full thanks to the outdoor activities that are available to them. Apart from the many water-related activities, there are also beautiful walks up Slangkop Mountain, where the views across the Southern Peninsular and the Atlantic Ocean are spectacular. For the bird-watcher and those who enjoy living close to nature, Kommetjie provides ample opportunities; the Wildevöelvlei has more than eighty bird species - the endangered black oyster-catchers can be seen on the flat dunes near the Kakapo wreck on Long Beach. The Kakapo wreck dates from 1900 when the captain of the Kakapo mistook Chapman’s Peak for Cape Point; he turned east and drove the ship so far up the beach that the sailors could step off the ship onto the beach. Kommetjie is also known for its Lighthouse; the Slangkop Lighthouse is South Africa’s tallest cast iron lighthouse and has been keeping the coast safe since 1919.
There are two roads out of Kommetjie. The main road to the north-east goes through to Ou Kaapse Weg and from there one has easy access to all the medical, educational, shopping and social amenities available in Noorhoek and Fish Hoek. Imhoff’s Farm, which is on this road and very close to Kommetjie, is visited by tourists and locals alike, who enjoy the many specialist shops and activities on offer. Adjacent to Imhoff’s Farm, is the residential area of Imhoff’s Gift which overlooks the Wildevöelvlei conservation area and has beautiful views across the vlei to the sea. The road to the south follows the rugged coast to Misty Cliffs and Scarborough; both of these areas are ‘conservation’ areas, and if you would like to live close to nature and have incredible sea-views, these are the areas for you. From there this scenic route will take you on to Cape Point and Simonstown.
With all that it has to offer, it is no wonder that properties in South Africa are highly sought-after. There are a variety of properties available in Kommetjie ranging from older homes to modern and contemporary residences, from family homes with spacious gardens to convenient ‘lock up and go’ holiday homes. Almost all the homes are within easy walking distance of the beach. With so much to offer, it’s easy to see why Kommetjie residents love their village and once they have experienced living there, never want to move away. Real estate in Kommetjie, South Africa is well worth the investment.
