The prominent ridge (which gives the suburb its name) is protected within the Boschkop Nature Reserve.

Ferndale/Randburg

This is a particularly pretty section of real estate in South Africa. One of the main advantages of staying here is the central location, and you are able to get anywhere relatively quickly. Ferndale is packed with shops, restaurants and business parks; yet Ferndale and its neighbouring suburbs of Robindale, Fontainebleau and Blairgowrie are not short of open spaces and street trees. With its close proximity to the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens at Emmarentia Dam, it remains a highly popular area for families. The dam at Emmarentia is regarded as a “dog sanctuary” – ideal for dog walkers.

Fontainebleau

Its closest neighbours are Blairgowrie, Robin Hills and Malanshof. Access from this part of the city is excellent. This part of the northern suburbs is alive with entertainment and shopping. A hidden gem south of Fontainebleau is Alberts Farm Nature Reserve and offers a wonderful weekend walk. It is a conservancy of about 90 hectares of small, rocky ridges and grassland that stretches down to a wetland area.

Jukskei Park

Jukskei Park is for the most part, an upper-middle class section of property in Randburg. It offers an array of architecture styles from modern townhouses to older homes that lie on fairly large plots of Randburg property. What makes this area so popular is its easy access to the N1 highway. Another plus point is entertainment. Just a few minutes’ drive is all it takes to access the major shopping centres or World Heritage sites such as the Cradle of Humankind.

A large number of wedding venues and business parks surround North Riding.

Boskruin Koppie

Situated on the northern slope of Boskruin Koppie in one of the most sought after access controlled suburbs in Johannesburg is The Koppie. It is proclaimed as a nature ‘Preserve’ with dassies, guinea fowl and even some resident peacocks to be found. Crows and a number of owls also make the Koppie their home. Over 144 different species of birds and small animals (including hedgehogs, tortoises, and mongooses) have made this their home. This exclusive community consists of approximately 200 houses and 40 cluster homes. A patrol vehicle is also on duty in the suburb. This area is home to some of the most exclusive homes in South Africa. For exclusive and upmarket property in Johannesburg, Northcliff is an outstanding option.

FairLands

The pretty northern suburb of Johannesburg, Fairlands is close to Northcliff and Cresta, one of the city's major landmarks and home to a plethora of shops and entertainment. Fairlands is one of the leafier and older suburbs, and originates from a farm called Weltevrede. It is also prone to large, verdant gardens and fairly big homes. It has recently expanded to include the new FNB and WesBank Campus and a R1.2 billion building on the corner of Beyers Naude and Wilson Roads.

The building was apparently constructed according to environmentally friendly standards that began with the foundations which were dug without moving any soil from the site. It is large enough to house both Ellis Park and Wanderers stadiums and it is a two kilometre walk around the building's perimeter. There are a number of schools in Fairland such as Laerskool Fairland and Cliffview Primary. Current statistics show that Fairland has the lowest crime rate compared to other properties in Johannesburg. Randburg property is truly a fantastic option for a cleaner, safer lifestyle.
